Walmart and ABB E-mobility Roll Out Extensive EV Fast-Charging Network
First Phoenix area installations mark the start of a nationwide collaboration
Zurich, April 28, 2026 — Walmart and ABB E-mobility announced the launch of ABB E-mobility’s A400 All-in-One fast chargers at seven Walmart locations in the metropolitan Phoenix area. These sites, along with sites in Colorado, Florida, and Georgia, are among the first of a planned nationwide rollout that will bring high-power chargers to Walmart properties, making electric vehicle (EV) charging as convenient as a weekly shopping trip.
With more than 5,200 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores across the United States, 90% of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart location. By embedding EV charging into existing retail destinations, Walmart and ABB E-mobility are making the transition to electric mobility easier, more reliable, and more accessible for millions of drivers.
“As part of Walmart’s commitment to helping customers save money and live better, we’re excited to bring a retail-integrated EV charging experience to the communities we serve,” said Adam Happel, GM Walmart EV Charging. “We’re building a convenient and reliable network that gives our customers the ability to charge their EVs quickly and affordably without having to change their daily shopping routine.”
“Launching in the Phoenix metro area is the first step in what will become the most ambitious retail charging rollout in the United States,” said Brandt Hastings, President North America, ABB E-mobility. “Together with Walmart, we are combining trusted retail access with telecom-grade charging reliability, delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of drivers today and scales with demand tomorrow.”
For retailers, EV charging has become a powerful driver of customer loyalty and incremental sales. Independent studies show that proximity to charging stations can increase store visits by up to 4%, while the average charging session creates additional time spent in-store. Walmart customers will also be able to start a charging session directly through the Walmart app, integrating EV charging with the digital experience shoppers already rely on for savings and personalized recommendations.
The ABB E-mobility A400 chargers installed at stores in Mesa, Tempe, Apache Junction, and Queen Creek deliver up to 400 kilowatts of power — capable of providing 200 kW to two vehicles in parallel or the full 400 kW to a single car. Metro Phoenix is slated to see nine Walmart locations energized with a total of 38 ABB E-mobility A400 chargers in the coming months. ABB’s electrical distribution solutions and utility insight help ensure the sites have a reliable and future-proof connection to the local utility grid. With ABB’s ReliaGear® switchboard, Walmart has the flexibility to bring in future energy resources, such as battery energy storage solutions, quickly and with minimal downtime.
Dual CCS and NACS connectors ensure compatibility with all leading EV models. With a full charge achievable in the time it takes to complete a typical shopping trip, Walmart customers can rely on a fast, frictionless experience.
ABB E-mobility’s A400 All-in-One charger combines award-winning design with future-ready scalability and 99% uptime performance. Features include a 32-inch configurable display for brand integration, promotions, and advertising, as well as modular architecture that reduces lifetime operating costs while ensuring adaptability to evolving vehicle technologies.
